| RECOMENDATIONS |
|
Pay special attention to the preparation of motion capture session:
- If mocap session is carried out without your participation, prepare full animation list that you need, describe in details all the requirements, exactly define what the result should be.
- Identify required naming system for animation files.
- Identify the date of delivery of final data, also required types and formats of animations (marker, skeletal, fbx, c3d, bvh, csm, etc.), moreover what is the programme package for further use of the mocap animations.
- Make a list of required props, if necessary (floormats, platforms, guns, etc.).
- Character moves and personality have to be exactly conveyed, therefore it is vital to hire talented actor, who would be capable to do the tasks.
- Give the descriptions of animations to the actor in advance, so that s/he would be able to rehearse the scenes. Well rehearsed moves means correct and exact animations, saves capture time as well.
- When ready character models are given, you can see animation of them in the real time during capture (real-time preview). This point is not necessary, but may be helpful when capturing the movements of specific or hypertrophied characters (giants, lilliputians, monsters, etc.).
The presence of a producer and/or head animator is advisable, since this helps to control capturing process and apply corrections as required, so that the movements would be correct.
If you record your mocap on video session with time recording, also with take names and numbers, you get the additional reference for animators. This helps when dealing with animation selection and working with it.
Hundreds and even thousands of animation files are made during capturing process, so you better describe each take in details – to help further selection of animations and working with it.
